Please see the attached job announcement reproduced below. The
announcement doesn?t say this, but there are two (2) open lines to fill.
Courses in language and culture studies at several levels (General
Education, the ANTH department's required course for the undergrad major)
could also fall into this mix, were the candidate suitably qualified.
?Non-renewable? means that the contracts runs for one year. However,
should all go well (teaching performance, dept service etc) , and
assuming funding for the line is renewed, the contract is subject to
renewal. Please share with anyone you think might be interested.

No longer being dept chair and not being on the search committee, I have

The Department of Anthropology, American University, seeks a
social-cultural anthropologist to fill a one-year, non-renewable, term
faculty appointment at the rank of professorial lecturer, beginning Fall
2013. The teaching assignment may include: Culture and Human Experience,
Roots of Racism , Anthropology of U.S. Life, and related courses in the
university?s General Education Program; and upper level undergraduate or
graduate-level courses in cultural/social anthropology and public
anthropology. PhD by September 1, 2013 required. Previous teaching
experience as instructor of record is required. Other responsibilities
include assisting with student advising, particularly the mentoring of
women and minority students, and participating in other department service
activities.
