Colleagues,

CBC Radio’s Spark has an interview with David Crystal on online language use, with some comments on informality, registers, communicative competence of adolescents, language games, and Twitter pragmatics.

It’s meant for a broad audience, obviously, but it might also work well in teaching contexts. (In the past, I’ve used a few entries from The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language to introduce some broad concepts to students.)
