Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who suggested films/resources! I've included a list
below, as well as some of the suggesters' descriptions:
"A Life without Words," (Dir: Adam Isenberg, 2012, DER;
http://www.der.org/films/life-without-words.html) about Nicaraguan siblings.
Described as ethnographic in style and raising uncomfortable questions.
"Sound and Fury" (2007) - had some recommendations and some criticism,
especially surrounding it not respecting Deaf perspectives.
"In the Land of the Deaf" (Dir: Nicholas Philibert, 1992) had a number of
positive recommendations. It's filmed in France.
'Touch the sound' by Thomas Riedelsheimer,
(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424509/), about deaf percussionist Evelyn
Glennie.
PBS documentary 'Through Deaf Eyes'
Werner Herzog's documentary about deaf-blind people including quite a bit
about deaf-blind communication, Land of Silence and Darkness (Land des
Schweigens und der Dunkelheit, 1971)
"Hear and Now" (2007)
"The Heart of the Hydrogen Jukebox" (2009) --
