Dear colleagues,

Below is a note from my Russian colleague Rados Keravica who has written,
"I wanted to ask you if there are any standards in USA for translation the
texts into easy-to-read version or any standards for animations and graphic
images for children with intellectual disabilities?" I have given him a
couple of resources on sex education materials for low literacy Deaf people
but do not know of any such materials or standards for translating things
into language for people with developmental disabilities. Would any of you
know any such resources?

all best wishes to all of you,

Leila

Dear Leila,

It’s been a while since we met each other at International AIDS Conference
in Washington D.C. in 2012. If I recall well, back then, you showed me the
video on sexual education intended for people with intellectual
disabilities. I remember that it was a quite fascinating thing since nobody
was doing it in this way. However, I wanted to ask you now for a small help
and advice since our colleagues are about to launch the application for
children with autism which included specific animations, videos and graphic
images. Thus, I wanted to ask you if there are any standards in USA for
translation the texts into easy-to-read version or any standards for
animations and graphic images for children with intellectual disabilities?
If there are no any, would it be possible to send me some link with good
practice example which could provide us some guidance on it?

Many thanks in advance!

Rados
