Dear SLA Members,
I am forwarding to you a message from 2015 AAA Program Chair Ann Stahl which provides some useful information via the links provided. It always amazes me how quick a turnaround this always is. Seems like we are barely back from the 2014 meetings in DC and we are now facing approaching deadlines for the 2015 meetings in Denver.
This is just information to those who want to get an early start on planning for the meeting. 2015 SLA Program Editor Judy Pine will be contacting you all shortly with a more user-friendly set of relevant information.
In addition to Ann Stahl’s announcement I am also copying in NASA’s Crystal Sheedy’s call for nominations for officers for this student organization. See that below as well as the attachment.
All the best,
Paul

Hello Paul,
I am writing to you as section assembly leader for the Society for Linguistic Anthropology in my capacity as Chair of the 2015 Executive Program Committee (EPC) for the Denver AAA meetings, the theme of which is "Familiar/Strange." I'm hoping that your membership will find this a resonant theme and that it will prompt engagement among your members. Perhaps you can pass this information along to your membership?
Pasted in below, you'll find links where the meeting theme is described. I would be delighted to see a proposal from among your section membership for an Executive session at the meetings. The due date for executive session proposals is Feb 17. Though invited sessions no longer need to be linked to the meeting's theme, I'm also hopeful that your colleagues will find the "Familiar/Strange" theme sufficiently engaging that some will. With a deadline of April 15, there is more time for planning of those.
I'm happy to engage in dialogue about possibilities as they bubble up.
With all best wishes,
Ann Stahl, 2015 AAA EPC Chair

NASA’s mandate is ‘to stimulate and encourage the interests and involvement of both graduate and undergraduate students in anthropology’. As an officer of NASA, you have the opportunity to directly shape important AAA policies and procedures as they relate to students.
We also directly address common concerns of all anthropology students: applying to and attending graduate school; applying and receiving funding; participation in fieldwork programs; training in appropriate methods; publishing opportunities; professional networking opportunities; networking; and securing employment.
Working with NASA is an excellent way to gain leadership skills, establish experience working collaboratively in an AAA section, and to network with other students, professors, and professionals in anthropology and related disciplines. The atmosphere between NASA officers is friendly and collegial. Nominees are encouraged to bring and develop their own ideas of how NASA can better serve the interests of our student constituency.
We welcome regular nominations and self-nominations for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in anthropology. For more information, please consult the summaries of officer roles and duties<http://studentanthropologists.wordpress.com/about/bylaws/>. Please note that as you must be a section member to nominate, we’d like to encourage you to join NASA now<http://www.aaanet.org/sections/section_info.cfm>.
