[Linganth] ling anth work on human-robot interaction?

I feel the same way about this as I do about human terrain studies. Is this
really a good direction to be going? What is the expected outcome for
humans of human-robot interaction?
Sorry, due to a long career in tech as a linguistic anthropologist, I am on
the Facebook feeds of a lot of Singularity, cyborg and robotics people. It
is all creepy and misguided.
Someone explain to me what the value is.
