Dear Colleagues,
I join the others in mourning the loss of Mike Agar. I first met him in 1987 at the International Pragmatics Association in Antwerp. I was still a lowly graduate student but he graciously invited me to join him, Chuck Frake, and other important scholars who were sampling the Corsendonk. In addition to his scholarly contributions, Mike was one of the kindest and most supportive senior academics I have ever met.
よろしく
Laura

Friends,
Mike was a great human being. A strong voice within linguistic anthropology, he played a crucial role in bringing our work to the attention of social/cultural anthropologists and people in other disciplines.
We will miss him,.
Charles

Very sad. My students, every year, always ensure I keep Speaking of Ethnography on the reading list. His guidance continues.
