Greetings from Honolulu!
It's the time of year to begin planning the Linguistic Geography sessions
for the next American Association of Geographers Annual Meeting. The
upcoming conference will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana on April
10-14, 2018. The AAG is a huge, welcoming, interdisciplinary conference
with a significant international reputation, and 2018 will mark the third
year of dedicated Linguistic Geography sessions.
I am looking for a co-organizer, 2-4 session chairs, and 10-20 paper
presentations.
Here is the tentative abstract for the sessions:
Language and geography interact in many ways, and at many scales. Scholars
from fields such as cultural geography, linguistic anthropology, sociology,
and political science share in the endeavor to understand the relationship
between language and space. This interdisciplinary session examines both
the role of landscape in language, and the role of language in landscape.
Topics include language and space, linguistic landscapes (language use in
public spaces), language and power, ethnophysiography, toponymy,
dialectology, and linguistic cartography.
Please contact me at catherine.lee at hawaii.edu if you are interested in
co-organizing, chairing, or presenting in the 2018 Linguistic Geography
Sessions!
Feel free to disseminate this CFP to anyone who might be interested.
Thanks!
