We are seeking postdoctoral researchers and a project manager to lead a
large collaborative study on mathematical learning among the Tsimane',
an indigenous group in Bolivia. The targeted research includes both
ethnographic work on number usage among Tsimane' families and use of
basic tasks from experimental psychology in order to quantify the types
of numerical knowledge that Tsimane' children develop. Applicants should
be fluent in Spanish and preferably have experience with fieldwork since
a considerable amount of time will be spent in the field or in nearby
towns (e.g. San Borja, Bolivia). Strong applicants for the position will
also possess quantitative skills including knowledge of statistics and
experimental design. Positions will be for 1-3 years and would start
likely late summer 2018. This work is funded by NSF's Division of
Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings. Please contact
Steven Piantadosi spiantado at gmail.com before May 1 if you are interested
in applying.
