[Linganth] Summer school: New Urban Life Across the Globe: Activism and Change in a World of Cities

Dear colleagues,

One of my good colleagues have run this excellent and slightly experimental summer school at University of Copenhagen for the past 3 years. If you have students to whom this could be relevant, we would be very grateful if you could pass the information on to them

 Application deadline: 1st of April 2018). MA-level students from all disciplines with a clear interest in urban studies can apply.

New Urban Life Across the Globe: Activism and Change in a World of Cities (7.5 ECTS), 23rd of July to 3rd of August 2018

During this summer school, the students will be immersed in critical urban theory and practical approaches to urban ethnography, drawing from a broad range of excellent research at three faculties of the University of Copenhagen. The aim of the course is to cultivate knowledge of the relation between 'the urban' and social and political change today.

The summer school is supported by IARU (International Alliance of Research Universities) and organized in collaboration between the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, the Department of Sociology and the Centre of African Studies, University of Copenhagen.

Urban Culture in Theory and Action (7.5 ECTS), 6th of August to 17th of August 2018
During this summer school in the heart of Copenhagen, students from across the world get an opportunity to move from analyzing problems in urban societies to creating possible solutions and identifying real potentials. Students can thus try their hand at implementing ideas for change in the practice and production of culture in relation to the built environment.

The summer school is organized together with Strøm music festival and it combines academic theory with hands-on practice, using a specific area of Copenhagen as a laboratory for developing creative and innovative solutions to actual problems or for identifying potentials hidden in urban space.
