Hello all,
Apologies for the cross posting. A student is conducting a survey on the
labeling of speech disorders found in children. And she is looking for
folks to take the below described survey.
Thanks,
Shannon Bischoff
Recent studies have proposed that a new diagnostic label be used for
children with language disorders with unknown etiology. Currently, there is
not an agreement in the field as to what this term should be, despite a
recent endorsement of the term Development Language Disorder (DLD).
Rationale for the use of DLD was partially based on statements made by
professionals on behalf of parents during a recent study.
Bishop et al. (2016) mention that a weakness of their study was the small
number of parent representatives. A difference between parents’ beliefs and
the statements made on their behalf would mean that the proposed label was
founded upon a false understanding of what parents look for in a diagnostic
label. This study seeks to determine what a parent’s highest priority is
when receiving their child’s diagnosis and how their responses
differentiate when given varying terms and descriptions.
The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary
and confidential.
At the end of the survey, 1 participant will be randomly chosen to receive
a $100 gift certificate from Amazon. The odds of winning have been
estimated to be 1 in 500.
