Hi linganth community,

I just wanted to pass along this piece I wrote for Anthropology News on speech acts and the #metoo movement. I wrote it thinking about my students and how to make linguistic anthropology accessible and relevant to them. While speech as action is the central idea, I also engage concepts like responsibility and evidence, community, and public/private spheres. I hope it will be useful to some of you in the classroom.

And while I’m tooting my own horn, I also wanted to let you know that I have a new book out. It’s rather pricey, but I’m committed to getting it into the hands of people for whom the price might be an obstacle, particularly students, underemployed academics, international scholars, etc. So if that’s in any sense a concern, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to facilitate access to a lower-cost copy.
