Dear All: I am prepping a popular culture panel in preparation for a future ethnographic project on television viewing and discourses of social change around women and (dis)empowerment. Hoping that a few folks on this list may have an interest in the topic. Regards, Rachel

CFP: Seeking participants for the Popular Culture Association conference 2019 (Washington, DC, April 17-20, 2019) for a panel on The Portrayal of Rape in Contemporary Television and Video. A deeper understanding of the framing and discourses of rape in popular culture will help us to understand how sexual violence affects men and women, victims and perpetrators, frontline workers and law enforcement. Papers might examine (for example) rape myths and counter myths written into popular shows, narratives of the intersection of misogyny and sexual violence, sexual fantasy, portraits of true crime, masculinity-femininity and rape, victim and perpetrator perception, among other topics. If you are interested and have an idea to share, please contact Rachel Reynolds at rrr at drexel.edu<mailto:rrr at drexel.edu> ASAP as the paper proposal deadline is October 1, 2018.
