(pease forward this message to graduate students and recent PhDs in linguistic anthropology)

Dear graduate students and recent PhDs in linguistic anthropology,

We hope to see many of you at SLA 2020 in Boulder! Thanks to advocacy and a generous funding contribution by the CLASP program at CU Boulder, the SLA has been able to keep graduate student registration fees down to $50. The CLASP program is also preparing a number of special events tailored to graduate students, including workshops, roundtables, and a graduate student reception.

This message has two reminders for those of you preparing submissions for SLA 2020 (April 2-5, Boulder, CO), due Monday, December 16.

First, please remember to submit your nomination TODAY (Friday, December 13) for a book publication in linguistic anthropology that you would like to see featured in the Presidential Session. Here is the information you need, in case you missed it the first time around: The Society for Linguistic Anthropology is organizing presidential sessions at the SLA 2020 Spring Meeting that feature recently published authors in linguistic anthropology. The sessions are limited to books published in 2017 or 2018. We would very much value graduate student input on who you would like to hear from in these sessions! Please fill out the survey at the link below (1 question only) to nominate a book author. (Only author and book title are required.) For your nomination to be considered, you will need to submit your response by December 13. https://forms.gle/DpSguHd1SxTvTKoH7

Second, a reminder about the CLASP Graduate Student Paper Competition. As part of the SLA 2020 Spring Conference, the CLASP program<https://www.colorado.edu/program/clasp/> at the University of Colorado Boulder is hosting a graduate student paper competition. The winner of the competition will be recognized and granted a plenary spot on the SLA 2020 conference program. Submissions of up to 8,000 words (excluding references) should be sent by December 16, 2019 to clasp at colorado.edu<mailto:clasp at colorado.edu>. Please see the Graduate Student Paper Competition<https://www.colorado.edu/program/clasp/conference/graduate-student-paper-competition> webpage for more information on submission requirements.

Many thanks,

Kira Hall (on behalf of the SLA Executive Committee and the SLA 2020 Conference organizers)
