> The University of Virginia Department of Anthropology seeks to hire a socio-cultural anthropologist at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (tenure track). Geographic and topical specialization is open. Candidates should have a strong record of extended ethnographic research in particular communities that are historically marginalized or underrepresented, and their work should be informed by collaborative research methodologies and related theory. The successful candidate will build theoretical or methodological arguments on skillful ethnographic description and analysis.

> Candidates must have an ongoing program of research and publication, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and the ability to teach courses that contribute centrally to the Department’s PhD program and undergraduate major. Responsibilities of the position include teaching the history of anthropology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, teaching other introductory and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses (with a 2/2 load), mentoring diverse undergraduate and graduate students, contributing to the Department and University through service activities, and seeking external funding to support an active research program. Broad knowledge of the discipline of anthropology is required.
