[Linganth] advise for my graduate student

Colleagues,

It has been a good few years (if one wants to be Polyannaish about it)
since I've been part of a program that grants MA but not a PhD.

Students have a choice between an applied (internship) and research
(fieldwork plus thesis) tracks. My sense is that for a student serious
about applying to PhD programs after graduation, research track may be more
advantageous in the admission process?
