*Description*
The Department of Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin invites
applications for a faculty position in anthropology with an affiliation in
Native American and Indigenous Studies, to start in Fall 2020. Applicants
with a focus in sociocultural anthropology, or socioculturally informed
applicants from the other subfields of anthropology, will be considered.
Applicants from closely related disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to those candidates working in Native North
America and entering at the rank of Assistant Professor, although others
will be considered. The successful candidate will show evidence of
scholarly excellence commensurate with rank, of accomplished teaching, and
of active engagement with Native American and/or Indigenous peoples,
thought, politics, and cultures.
We conceive of the field of Native American / Indigenous Studies broadly,
in terms of both geography and identity, and we are especially interested
in work that critically engages these very definitional questions both
theoretically and empirically. The new member of our faculty will join a
vibrant anthropology department and will be encouraged to actively
participate in the process of building the interdisciplinary Native
American and Indigenous Studies Program at the University of Texas at
Austin.
Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.
Position funding is pending budgetary approval. Background check conducted
on applicant selected.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand by June 30th, 2020 in Anthropology or
a related field and an established record of high-quality research and
publications commensurate with rank. Applicants should also have a
demonstrated record of effective classroom teaching.

approximately 33 faculty members, spread across its four subfields:
sociocultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, biological
anthropology, and archaeology. There are over 45 faculty affiliated with
the Native American and Indigenous Studies Program.
