Dear Ilana,
What a fun/potentially distressing course! I'm interested in this too and
will be keen to see folks' suggestions. In the meantime, you might get some
sources from my bibliography (too short- editors set a strict limit) in my
encyclopedia article on "obscenity and taboo words," which includes
citations of e.g. Kira Hall, Luke Fleming, Susan Seizer, Shaylih Muehlmann,
Arthur Spears, Rupert Stasch, and Don Kulick here:
https://www.academia.edu/en/41573902/Obscenity_and_Taboo_Words_Encyclopedia_article_
Going darker (and with a content warning), my article from last year in
Language and Society on dehumanizing epithets and military necropolitics,
titled "Because it's easier to kill that way":
https://www.academia.edu/50843171/Because_its_easier_to_kill_that_way_Dehumanizing_epithets_militarized_subjectivity_and_American_necropolitics
And then there's the intro to Norma Mendoza-Denton's and my edited Trump
volume, including discussion of his/politicians' increasingly untrammelled
language and profanity, and DT's various "semiotic crimes" - actually the
whole volume has lots of great chapters about this, but here is the open
access intro:

Very best,
Janet
