Dear All,

I think there are probably linguistic anthropologists who would qualify for
this quick-turnaround fellowship related to AI. And even if this is not a
good fit now, you or others you know might want to apply for the regular
AAAS S&T Policy Fellowship

Don't be put off by the "Science & Technology" in the fellowship's title;
PhDs in many disciplines, including ling anth are eligible. (I had one
myself 10 or so years ago.) For the regular AAAS S&T fellowship (unlike the
special AI-related opportunity below), you do need a PhD, and I think you
need to be a US citizen or permanent resident for both, though I'm not 100%
sure. A similar fellowship that does not require a PhD, however, is
the Presidential
Management Fellowship <https://www.pmf.gov/>. I wish more anthropologists
would apply for both of these fellowships because there is a desperate need
for anthropological expertise in the government!

Congress via a unique cohort of fellows who are expert in artificial
intelligence. Deliberation and decision-making on this powerful new
technology demands expertise now. This cohort will be at the ready as
embedded staff members in Members of Congress’ personal and committee
offices to provide knowledge, experience and guidance in support of smart
policies starting this September.

*The subject matter area expertise sought includes* but is not limited
to: AI and generative technologies; computer science and engineering;
information technology; data science; mathematics; statistics; robotics;
machine learning; health technology; psychology and human factors;
economics; and, political science. *Candidates may come from a range of
career stages, degree levels, and experience* (PhD, MS/ME/M.Eng+3 years,
BS+5 years). *Applicants who are new to STPF, as well as STPF alumni and
current fellows who are not already committed to a 2023-2024 placement, are
eligible*. While government experience is not required, previous engagement
with political, social and regulatory challenges is particularly welcome.

As Congress prepares to meet the pressing need to shape AI policy, AI-STPF
fellows will be extraordinary assets in helping to understand the
political, social, cyber, and economic impacts for our country and the
world. We are assembling our resources now to enable a rapid response to
