Dear colleagues,
We are seeking articles for the Fall 2024 Society for Linguistic
Anthropology section news column of *Anthropology News*.
The journal is now organized thematically, and the upcoming theme is
*praxis*.
*As the 2024 American Anthropological Association (AAA) annual meeting
approaches, Anthropology News invites submissions that delve into the
dynamic realm of anthropological praxis. We are seeking stories that bring
to life the processes by which anthropological theories, skills, methods,
and solutions are enacted, embodied, and put into practice across diverse
contexts. We welcome submissions that explore the multifaceted ways in
which anthropological praxis is manifested today, as well as visions for
its future, covering topics such as anthropologists as agents of change,
applying ethnographic methods in organizational settings, sharing
anthropological knowledge in the public sphere, innovative pedagogical
approaches, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and navigating the ethical
considerations of community engagement.*
If you have an idea that brings a linguistic anthropological perspective to
the theme of praxis, please contact the SLA column co-editors, Sarah
Muir (*smuir at ccny.cuny.edu
<smuir at ccny.cuny.edu>*) and Michael Wroblewski (*wroblewm at gvsu.edu
<wroblewm at gvsu.edu>*). Submissions are due *August 1, 2024*.
*Anthropology News* publishes pieces that are legible to a broad audience
within and beyond the discipline. Pieces can be either stories or photo
essays:
- Stories—short-form explorations of an interesting topic with detail
and depth, up to 1,600 words
- Photo essays—six to eight high-quality, visually compelling images +
up to 750 words of introductory text
We encourage submissions from students as well as faculty and we provide
strong editorial support as well as quick turn-around from submission to
publication. Reach out to us as soon as possible to see if your idea for a
story or photo essay on praxis might be a good fit.
Thanks for your consideration!
