[Linganth] SLA/AAA voting reminder

Hello again, SLA members,

A reminder that the deadline to vote in the AAA/SLA elections is tomorrow: June 14th at 11:59pm EST.

Not only do we have two wonderful candidates for the vital SLA position of Member-at-Large—Michael Berman and Karl Swinehart—we have several SLA members to support in the general election including:

  *   Chaise LaDousa (AAA Executive Board—Undesignated Seat)
  *   Sandhya Narayanan (AAA Nominations Committee—Minority Seat)

All members eligible to vote will receive an email, like the one below, from

Memerbership at email.americananthro.org<mailto:Memerbership at email.americananthro.org>.  This will give you access to the voting portal.  If you have not received one, it is likely it is because your membership has not been renewed.

Since you will need to be an active AAA member to cast your vote, now is an excellent time to renew your SLA membership! <https://americananthro.org/membership/sections/?sf_paged=4>  Keeping your section membership up to date helps support section initiatives—including mentoring, virtual programming, and improved accessibility—and sustain a stronger and more inclusive SLA.  You can learn more about a range of SLA initiatives as well as the upcoming conference by reading our summer newsletter, which we will circulate later this month.

Finally, please remember that you can also donate to the SLA quickly and easily by choosing the “Sustaining Member” option when you renew.

Dear AAA members,

Thank you to everyone who has voted so far. For those of you who have not voted yet, we ask you to cast your votes and choose the best candidates to lead our Association and the field into the future. This year we have truly excellent profiles to choose from during the nomination process. The candidates before you represent a select group of people who truly embody the values and goals of the AAA.

Your vote is especially important given the opposition academic anthropology is currently facing in some regions of the United States and the rest of the world. Those elected will have a tough job making sure legislators and the public continue to think of anthropology as relevant and vital.

Thank you to everyone who put their name forward for this election! Now we are counting on everyone at the AAA to come out and vote, thus showing our support for these brave colleagues who have agreed to represent us all in the sections, interest groups, and the AAA as a whole. Make your voice count and VOTE!
