Dear all,
A colleague at the Centre for Applied Language Studies at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, Petteri Laihonen, has shared the following opportunity, which aims to recruit strong scholars, especially from the US, who work on language and education and/or language in community and societal contexts. Note that at this stage associate and full professors are preferred, but he says that “especially talented or ambitious assistant professors with research team project leadership experience in the US” will also be given consideration. If CALS is successful in hiring someone, then there would be openings for PhD students and postdoc positions on the team.
Note that Petteri would like to receive quick expressions of interest as soon as possible, and ideally before April 30. The successful candidate would be funded for up to €2.5M for 5 years, after which they would be employed permanently as a full professor (or other appropriate rank). This amount includes costs for a research team, so to be competitive, the applicant should be experienced enough to lead a research team, similar to an ERC consolidator: https://erc.europa.eu/apply-grant/consolidator-grant <https://erc.europa.eu/apply-grant/consolidator-grant>. Please see below for more information.
Best,
Mary

> Hi Mary,
> as anticipated earlier now the call for researchers is out, at this stage the universities are collecting names for potential candidates to recruit.
> In brief: Any potential candidates in the broad field of applied language studies (social orientation) fitting CALS profile (seehttps://www.jyu.fi/en/humsoc/solki <https://www.jyu.fi/en/humsoc/solki>)

> the targeted recruitments would be researchers above the level of a post-doc, the more senior the better.
>
> At this stage we would need potential names interested in applying, preferably they would send an email to me stating their initial interest.
> later they would proceed to selection and recruitment process, but no final commitment would be needed at this stage.
>
> From the perspective of CALS and our field, it would be important to have strong candidates and thus new faculty.
