We would like to remind you that the deadline for submitting panel
proposals and scholarship applications for the World Anthropological Union
(WAU) 2025 Congress is approaching on February 15, 2025.

WAU 2025 Congress Overview
The WAU 2025 Congress, themed "Unearthing Humanity: Critical and Urgent
Epistemic Redefinitions in World Anthropologies," will take place in
Antigua, Guatemala, from November 3–8, 2025, in a hybrid format to ensure
broad accessibility. This gathering invites scholars, practitioners, and
activists to collectively interrogate and redefine the epistemic
foundations of anthropology, addressing the urgent need for inclusive,
ethical, and innovative approaches to understanding humanity in its diverse
and interconnected forms.

Key Updates:
1. Reduced Fees: We have lowered the Congress participation fees to
encourage broader involvement. Detailed information on the updated fee

2. Discount for WCAA Members (1): Members of associations affiliated with
the World Council of Anthropological Associations (WCAA) are eligible for a
10% discount on Congress fees, applicable to both early bird and regular
rates. To claim this discount, please email us your proof of 2025
membership (info at waucongress.org), such as:
- A letter on official letterhead from the chair or president of your
association.
- A valid membership card.
-Online proof of current membership.

Upon verification, we will provide you with a discount code to apply during
registration payment. To see if your association is a member, please refer

3. Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusion: The WAU 2025 Congress
Organizing Committee is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for
all participants. We are offering:
- 20 scholarships of up to $1,000 per person to cover registration fees,
transportation, accommodation, and/or living expenses for in-person
attendance.
- 50 scholarships for online participation, each valued at $100 USD, to
support scholars with limited resources.
- Childcare services during the Congress for parents traveling with
children.
- Pre-Congress workshops benefiting approximately 300 undergraduate and
graduate students.
- Support for 60 volunteers to ensure a well-organized event.
- WAU 2025 Photo Contest: "Women Doing Fieldwork" (Deadline: May 31, 2025)
Submit a series of 3–5 photographs that either depict women conducting
fieldwork across all social sciences and disciplines—especially
anthropology—or photographs taken by women showcasing their own fieldwork
experiences. Selected photographs will be featured in an exhibition and a
publication, with cash prizes available. More information:

- Technological infrastructure for live transmissions and recordings of
panels, symposia, roundtables, presentations, editorial seminars, and
keynote lectures.
- A metadata and repository strategy to ensure all Congress activities
adhere to the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility,
Interoperability, and Reusability). (2)
- Local cultural activities, guided tours of Antigua, and additional events
for individuals and families to provide an immersive experience in
Guatemala’s rich history and traditions.

4. New Tracks Added: To foster inclusivity and address diverse interests,
we have added new tracks to the Congress program. We invite you to explore

virtual portion of the WAU Congress 2024 in Johannesburg. While we were not
responsible for organizing that event, we stand in solidarity with our
colleagues and have extended a special reduced fee to affected participants
for the upcoming WAU 2025 Congress. Consequently, we are unable to offer an
additional 10% discount to those affected. We have already communicated
this offer to over 450 individuals and appreciate your understanding.
