Dear All,
It was great to see so many of you at last week's conference in Chicago. I
hope you all got home safely and have been able to carry the camaraderie
and inspiration into your work.
I'm writing to ask for suggestions of *language-focused, full-length
ethnographies* that would be accessible to high school students enrolled in
a new two-year Language and Culture course that is being piloted at dozens
of schools, both public and private, around the world as part of the
International Baccalaureate (IB) program. As you can see from this
description,
<https://www.ibo.org/globalassets/new-structure/university-admission/pdfs/language-and-culture-subject-brief-en.pdf>
students are required to read at least two full-length ethnographies during
the two years of the course.
I've been helping to develop the course over the past several years, and
one challenge has been identifying appropriate ethnographies, so I'm
turning to all of you to crowdsource a list of full-length (but not too
long), readable ethnographies dealing with any of the topics listed in
the course

I promise to share the list back with you all once I've compiled it.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Thanks, too, to those of you who
offered to be part of a *Language and Culture "Speakers Bureau,"* which
teachers will be able to use to contact potential virtual or real-life
visitors to their classes. (It's not too late to volunteer to be a speaker
if you didn't get a chance to do so earlier; just fill out this short
Google form

-- no obligation.)
Have a restful weekend, everyone, and thanks again for supporting the
sharing of insights from our discipline to high school students!
