[Linganth] Video camera recommendations

I have had good luck with the Canon XA line. XA30, XA40... if I could afford it right now I would probably get the XA70. On a budget, I would get a used XA10 or XA11. They're compact and robust and can weather many a fieldwork indignity. These are both my preference and the most popular cameras checked out of my lab. For outdoor recording, a windscreen is a must. I would also recommend investing in a pile of extra batteries and ample recharging stations, depending on what your power supply situation is. An SD card slot on your computer can be helpful for easy data transfer. In the field I use a portable SD card reader and immediately backup to my laptop and an external SSD drive.
Hope that helps!
Best,
Kate

Subject: [Linganth] Video camera recommendations
You don't often get email from drabie at arizona.edu. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Dear All,
This is a query for recommendations for good video cameras that you have used while doing fieldwork to record group style conversations, public events, and different types of natural interactions in indoor and outdoor settings. What are some important baseline components/specs that a video camera must have? Is a headphone option necessary? And what accessories would you suggest as well?
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance!
