Hello everyone,
I'm writing to pass along news of the Script Encoding Initiative
<https://sei.berkeley.edu/>’s new Research Fellows program. The program
provides a 3000 USD stipend to two fellows each year to conduct exploratory
research on writing systems and their potential digitization.
The goal is to expand our knowledge of writing systems not yet encoded in
the Unicode Standard and grow our global network of collaborators. Beyond
the stipend, SEI offers mentorship, administrative support, and a platform
for disseminating script research to scholars and technical audiences. We
hope you'll find it a fantastic opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary
research across linguistics, anthropology, history, computer science, and
other fields.

Applications are due June 13, 2025.
Would you mind spreading the word to your students, colleagues, and
collaborators with a strong interest in writing systems – historic or new –
and/or digital tools? We are happy to answer questions sent to
sei at berkeley.edu!
Thank you very much,
Anushah
