Hello,

I have a student working on a museum anthropology project with another faculty member who came to me looking for some help with a question related to Chin languages. She asks:

"My question is about the name of the tunic. I keep seeing different names for it such as "khran in", "khrangimm", and "krang im" among others. I am curious about why there is so much variation. Is it just a difference between dialects or maybe a translation issue?"

It sounds like dialectal variation and/or an issue of transliteration to me, but I have no experience with this language family. If anyone has a more precise answer for her, she'd be very grateful. An image of a tunic in question is attached.

Thanks in advance,
Thea
