The Society for Linguistic Anthropology invites nominations for *four*
positions this fall. We encourage you to consider nominating yourself or
another member. Each position has a three-year term.

Two positions will be appointed by the SLA Executive Board and will begin
in November 2025 after the AAA Annual Meeting.

  • Nominations Committee Member (November 2025-2028)

  • Social Media Manager (November 2025-2028)

Two positions will be elected by the SLA membership and will begin during
the fall of 2026.

  • Member at Large (Fall 2026-2029)

  • Secretary-Treasurer (Fall 2026-2029)

How do I submit a nomination? Nominating yourself may sound mysterious, but
it is a simple process. Just email us your name and the position you are
interested in to get started. If you nominate another member, please ensure
that they are willing to be nominated! The deadline for nominations is November
3, 2025.

How can I learn more about these positions? Below are descriptions of the
open positions. We (the members of the nominations committee) are also
happy to talk to you about the positions or the process as well as to
connect you with others who have held a given position previously or
currently hold it. So please get in touch if you are curious about getting
involved in the SLA, especially if you know very little about how it all
works. We are eager to help members new to SLA service understand how they
might contribute.

Should I consider it? Yes! If you are interested in working alongside other
linguistic anthropologists and in shaping the future of the SLA, we
encourage you to nominate yourself or to be willing to be nominated. The
SLA is especially interested in increasing its participation; we hope to
move well beyond our personal networks as we search for contributors.

We look forward to hearing from you!

the AAA staff to ensure that ballots and candidate slates meet AAA
guidelines. As members of the SLA extended board, members of the SLA
Nominations Committee receive an annual stipend of $250 toward attending
the AAA annual meeting. The nominations committee has three members, who
serve staggered three-year terms. Each member of the committee serves as
chair of the committee in their third and final year.

The Social Media Manager —typically filled by graduate students or recent
PhD—comes with a stipend of $2,000 per year. The tenure for this position
is three years. The SLA Social Media Manager represents the official voice
of the Society for Linguistic Anthropology and should maintain an active,

Committee. All payment requests are submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer
and approved by the President before being processed by the AAA. The

AAA annual meeting.
