Subject: [Linganth] LSJ General Meeting, October 10, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
The Language and Social Justice Committee (LSJ) of the Society for Linguistic Anthropology (SLA) is holding a general meeting on Friday, Oct 10th from 1:00-2:30 PDT/4:00-5:30 EST. Here is the Zoom link<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://csus.zoom.us/j/81091795124__;!!Mih3wA!CxM_mobdKMc9OH7zbhsW_1a0S5KXIJT7LrKSWdL2WUqjsUSMLLkJouL779O6WBkI6eoIQpP9haQXEKHX2tUYi-XGvk52ew$> to join the meeting (meeting ID: 810 9179 5124).
The main goals for this meeting are to give you some updates and to (re)orient/(re)establish our collective work in this new academic year and the ongoing challenges of the current socio-political climate. There will be allocated time to re-connect with or join and collaborate in our previously established working groups (see the list below).
The working groups that were active during our last general meetings are:
* Mother languages, heritage languages, indigenous languages/International Mother Language Day (IMLD) working group
* Language and gender/LGBTQ+ working group
* Accessibility (not only related to disability, but also linguistic, economic, epistemic, etc.) working group
* Language “destandardization”/raciolinguistics/academic language working group
* Surveillance/freedom of speech
* Book club
Of course, other ideas/pressing concerns can be discussed and alternative/new working groups can be formed around those as needed.
We hope to see as many of you there!
For accessibility and accommodations, please email Nadxieli at toledobustamante at csus.edu<mailto:toledobustamante at csus.edu> by October 1st.
Warmly,
Nadxieli Toledo Bustamante, on behalf of the LSJ Steering Committee
