Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to announce an upcoming week-long event at the University of
Alberta called *DISTILS: Discoveries and Insights in Skills Training for
Intergenerational Language Sustainability*.
Running May 4-8, this event brings together people from around the globe
who are engaged in helping endangered language communities to develop the
skills and capacities they need in order to carry out language
revitalization on their own terms.
The event is hosted by the Documentation Revitalization And Generation Of
New Speakers (DRAGONS) Lab, the research wing of the Canadian Indigenous
Languages and Literacy Development Institute (CILLDI) at the University of
Alberta.
The first three days, May 4-6, are a research conference, with presenters
from 16 different countries sharing their experiences and perspectives. The
final two days, May 7-8, are a series of workshops focusing on different
areas of language sustainability.
This first-of-its-kind gathering serves as the largest event to-date
organized by the International Network for Skills Training in
Intergenerational Language Sustainability (INSTILS), a global research
network founded at the University of Alberta in 2024.
Participants can attend in person on the U of A campus in Edmonton, or
online via Zoom. Registration is free in both cases. The event is funded by
a grant from the Strategic Research Initiatives Fund at the University of
Alberta.
For full information on the conference presentations and workshops, as well
as the link to registration page, please visit:

We hope that you will be able to join us!
All the best,
The DISTILS Organizing Committee
