Subject: [Linganth] Good news: *thank you* to everyone who assisted with Bolivia asylum case!

Dear list readers,

Afternoon! And a big *thank you* for your patience in reading several requests from me for help with asylum cases. Just wanted to send along some very happy news.

The young man who needed help with Quechua translation has been granted asylum, thank God. He received an outpouring of help from this listserv. One academic, in particular, gave testimony in court (for free!) And the judge specifically cited the expert testimony as a reason for her yes decision.

Many of you helped with offers of translation and other guidance — that is really great. Hope that you can smile a bit right now!

Getting asylum in these times is nothing easy. So it is really an amazing thing. If anybody has any use for information about this kind of case (persecution based on LGBT identity in Bolivia), definitely reach out to me! And we are still looking for possible experts to help with a young man who is from a Mam-speaking community in Guatemala. (And possibly also for a Q'eqchi'-speaking family from Guatemala.) Thank you for those who have already offered leads! If anyone has more ideas please let me know.

Much appreciation for your generosity. Grateful

                                                      OK— sending good wishes,

                                                                                                           -Duff
