Dear Colleagues,


*The Language and Social Justice Committee (LSJ) of the Society for
Linguistic Anthropology (SLA) *will hold a general meeting on *Friday,
March 13, 2026,* from *4:00–5:30 PM EST / 1:00–2:30 PM PDT**.*

The goals of this meeting are to:



   -

   Share updates on our efforts to recruit new members (2026 - 2027)
   -

   Update on new SLA bylaw regarding official statements
   -

   (Re)orient and (re)establish our initiatives for the new academic year


We will allocate time to reconnect with — or newly join — our working
groups / initiatives. The working groups active during our last General
Meetings include:



   -

   Mother languages, heritage languages, and Indigenous languages /
   International Mother Language Day (IMLD)
   -

   Language rights / English-Only EO
   -

   Language and gender / LGBTQ+ working group & Reading Group
   -

   Accessibility (including disability, linguistic, economic, epistemic,
   and related forms of access)
   -

   Language “destandardization,” raciolinguistics, and academic language
   -

   Surveillance and freedom of speech


If there are additional ideas or concerns, we welcome them. New working
groups may be formed as needed.


We hope to see many of you there.
