Dear colleagues, I’m very excited to announce that we have published the first set of articles in the special issue “Language Machines: Sociotechnical Practices and Ideologies at Work in Large Language Models<https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/toc/10.1111/(ISSN)1548-1395.language-machines>,<https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/toc/10.1111/(ISSN)1548-1395.language-machines>” edited by Siri Lamoureaux, Anna Weichselbraun, and Michael Castelle. You can find the first six articles and the Introduction to the special issue at the link above; more articles are in the works and will appear as they are published. Thanks to all the authors, editors, and reviewers who have participated / are participating in this project!

We also have three new virtual issues recently published. Virtual Issues are backward-looking collections around a particular theme relevant to current theory in linguistic anthropology. We hope these will be useful and interesting to readers who might find new dialogues among articles previously published in the JLA. Many thanks to the guest curators who assembled these Virtual Issues!

Ambivalence, Bivalency, and Ambiguity<https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/toc/10.1111/(ISSN)1548-1395.ambivalence-bivalency-ambiguity>, curated by Sarah Muir

Language and Mediation in South Asian Societies<https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/toc/10.1111/(ISSN)1548-1395.language-mediation-south-asian-soc>, curated by Sonia Das and Nishaant Choksi

These new virtual issues join the Cross-Journal Symposium on Listening Practices and Linguistic Perception<https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/toc/10.1002/(ISSN)9999-0009.Listening-Practices-and-Linguistic-Perception>, published with the Journal of Sociolinguistics last year. For additional new and awesome articles, please see our current issue<https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/15481395/current> page.

We’re in the process of posting author interviews on our social media channels<https://linktr.ee/journaloflinganthro> - check them out, and please contact Valeria Giffin (giffin.247 at buckeyemail.osu.edu) if you’re interested in setting up an interview!

Take care all,
Anna
