The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Applied
Medical Anthropology position with a specialization in cultural aspects
of health disparities. The start date is 17 August 2027.

Requirements for this position are a Ph.D. in Anthropology (or a related
field if the dissertation supervisor was an anthropologist) in hand by the
time of appointment, a record of scholarly publications and an active
research agenda, and experience teaching at the college level. We seek
applicants with the ability to participate in our undergraduate and
graduate program (M.A.) including support of the joint M.A./M.P.H. dual
degree program. We expect the candidate will be able to contribute to an
existing or developing area of excellence at UNC Charlotte, including but
not limited to urban health, migration and diaspora studies, climate change
and resilience, or socioeconomic mobility. Preference will be given to
candidates who have the potential to develop on-going research projects
local to Charlotte, North Carolina, or the Southeastern US more broadly. We
especially encourage applicants who are committed to community-based,
collaborative, and engaged scholarship. The Department of Anthropology at
UNC Charlotte emphasizes four-field training for its students and offers
B.A. and M.A. degrees in Anthropology with optional concentrations in
Applied Anthropology at both levels and Medical Anthropology at the
graduate level. The teaching load is two courses per semester plus graduate
student mentoring. Applicants should be prepared to teach a four-field
introduction to Anthropology course and core courses in Applied
Anthropology and Medical Anthropology, in addition to electives at the
graduate and/or undergraduate level.

Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage,
include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and
how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of
all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
