Fund Drive FLASH: We still need $43,290 to end Fund Drive.
If you have not donated, please visit http://linguistlist.org/donate.html
**********************************************************************
Dear Readers,
Did you miss Fun dDrive Friday?? It looks like it, since donations to
Fund Drive have been down for the last two days. (We need to make
$2000 a day in order to end Fund Drive on time--and you KNOW how much
we'd all like to do that!) Usually donations rise on Fridays and over
the weekend--probably in recognition of how much work the students do
to make the Friday pages amusing. They don't like to ask for money
any more than Anthony and I do, so on Fridays they try to lighten up
the Fund Drive and leaven the pleas for money with some jokes.
This year they have produced a wonderful animated comic book, as well
as numerous puzzles and games on the theme of Superheroes. I've asked
them to leave the comic up one more day, because I don't want you to
miss it. Do take a look--and be sure you have your computer speakers
on. See the Disambiguator (Anthony) battle evil Degenerative Grammar,
er Gramma! I thought it was great.

And it shows you just what these excellent students are capable
of. They work extremely hard every day of the year maintaining the
services that you depend on--not just posting and maintaining the
website, but also keeping up the NoticeBoard, Ask-a-Linguist, the OLAC
search engine, the Multi-Mailing List Search, the Who's Working on
your Language facility, and more. But they work particularly hard
during Fund Drive, when they have the extra job of telling you about
their work in a way that will convince you to support them.
Take a look at the first installment of the Superheroes comic, and
then consider making a donation. LINGUIST is, and has always been, a
free service; but of course it isn't free to run. Think what GAs and
computer equipment cost at your own university; and you'll realize
that $55,000 a year is a modest amount to request in return for all
the services LINGUIST provides. Your donations are crucial if LL is
to continue.
With hearty thanks to those who have already donated,
-Helen

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is
38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your
employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that
doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an
extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates
such a program.
Note: the donors' names are appended to every fund drive message sent
to the main list. You can also see the list of all donors by clicking
