Subject: You Are the Reason We Are Here
Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers,
I want to begin this letter with a thank you. My tenure at LINGUIST
List began this past fall semester after I was accepted to the Master's
program in Linguistics at Eastern Michigan University. Within minutes
of my first day on the job I came to realize how important each and
every one of you is to our continued operation. You are the reason I
have been able to complement my graduate studies with hands-on experience
that goes above and beyond the classroom. Thank you for your generous
donations and your continued patronage to our web service.
Your support allows me to edit and post your FYI submissions and your
new journal announcements. With your contributions and patronage, I am
able to enter lexicons into the LEGO database and tag their grammatical
information to GOLD, thus familiarizing myself with XML and the importance
of interoperability. Every task I complete at LINGUIST List is done with
your generous support in mind.
Since LINGUIST List is a non-profit organization, your contribution is
essential to maintain our operations. Amounts such as $5.00, $10.00, or
$15.00 would go a long way toward meeting our goal. Please donate at:

Again, thank you!
Sincerely,
Brent Miller

Subject: Bound to Make You Laugh!
Dear Subscribers,
Did you enjoy our first comic strip illustrated by
our own Danielle St. Jean? If so, come and see the
second comic strip that our crew members have worked
on.
http://linguistlist.org/fund-drive/2011/
We are happy to try to entertain you with our
comics and hope that they are fun to read.
If you find them funny, donate to LINGUIST as a
thank you:
https://linguistlist.org/donation/donate/donate1.cfm
If you did not find them as hilarious as some of
our crew members have, donate to LINGUIST to ensure
that our students can actually have another year
of doing what they do best: running LINGUIST List
(and not drawing comics!).
If you have a great linguistic related comic that
you would like us to feature, contact Maria at
maria at linguistlist.org and we will do our best to
put it up on our site for the enjoyment of all
subscribers!

Subject: GOLD at LINGUIST List
Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers,
My name is Matthew Lahrman; as current GOLD (General Ontology for
Linguistic Description) Team Leader, I would like to share with
you the developments of the GOLD Ontology (http://linguistics-ontology.org/).
Over the past year, we've expanded GOLD to include many more
definitions, examples, and usage notes that illustrate a wide
variety of linguistic concepts and constructions. To continue
to add to the functionality of GOLD, we have just completed a
workshop at the LSA 2011 with a panel of experts in different
areas on both linguistic terminology and ontologies. We look
forward to implementing new ideas to strengthen this resource,
and ask that you make a donation to help us continue developing
the GOLD Ontology:
https://linguistlist.org/donation/donate/donate1.cfm
We are currently using GOLD as a standard for marking lexicons
in our LEGO project and continue to seek implementers to test
and improve our ontology. As the GOLD ontology continues to
grow and be refined according to current standards in the field
of linguistics, your donations will allow us to maintain this
linguistic resource. Please donate to aid projects like GOLD-
every contribution is significant:

Best,
Matthew Lahrman
GOLD Team Leader
