Dear colleagues,

The Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication at the University of
Amsterdam offers three four-year research positions at the PhD-level.
Candidates may apply for one out of ten predefined projects, descriptions
of which can be found at:

<http://www.hum.uva.nl/research/aclc/index.htm>

Project numbers 1 and 2 are of special interest to students interested in
Functional Grammar and/or Language Typology.

The first project concerns differences in the effects that contact with
Spanish has had on typologically diverse Amerindian languages. The second
project concerns the diachrony of the parts-of-speech system of a language
with an originally little differentiated parts-of-speech system with a
well-documented history, such as Chinese or Turkish.

The persons appointed are expected to write a PhD thesis on one of the
aforementioned topics, and to teach part of a course in the second and
third year of appointment.

Apart from a salary which runs up from Euro 1.445,- (before taxes) in the
first year to Euro 2.063,-(before taxes) in the fourth year, candidates
will be given the opportunity to participate in high-quality PhD-courses at
the national level.

I would appreciate if you could direct potential candidates to the website
mentioned above.

Best, Kees Hengeveld
