WORKSHOP ON WORD DOMAINS:
THEORY AND TYPOLOGY
7-8 April 2004
University of Leipzig

The theme of this workshop is the role of the "word" in phonology and
morphology from the perspective of both theory and typology. In
addition to two invited speakers there will be slots for 8-10 papers.
Invited speakers who agreed to participate are:
Daniel Everett (University of Manchester)
Larry Hyman (University of California, Berkeley)
Abstracts are invited on papers dealing with any aspect of the theory
or typology of the word. Some specific topics are:
•The relationship between phonological and grammatical words
•Diagnostics for phonological and grammatical words, and conflicts
within these
•Phonological processes (segmental, prosodic) bounded by the word
•Relevance of the word for prosodic morphology and tone
•Prefix vs. suffix asymmetries
•Periphrastic morphology
•Bipartite stem phenomena, separable preverbs, and other incoherences
in grammatical word domains
Papers will be 45 minutes, including about 15 minutes discussion.
Deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 October 2004 and
notification of acceptance by 15 November 2004.

an anonymous one-page abstract to Kristine Hildebrandt at
