Dear ALT members,

At the conference in Berkeley, ALT will present two awards, the Joseph
Greenberg award for a typological dissertation defended in 2007 or 2008,
and the Georg von der Gabelentz award for a grammar published between
2005 and 2008.

The juries of the two awards have now made their decisions. The two
award winners are:

Caterina Mauri of the University of Pavia, who will receive the Joseph
Greenberg award for her dissertation "Coordination relations in the
languages of Europe and beyond", defended at the University of Pavia in
2007.

Carol Genetti of the University of California at Santa Barbara, who will
receive the Georg von der Gabelentz award for her "Grammar of Dolakha
Newar", published by Mouton de Gruyter in 2007.

Both award winners will present a plenary lecture at the conference in
Berkeley.

We are very grateful to Martin Haspelmath and Nikolaus Himmelmann, who
chaired the Greenberg and Gabelentz juries, and to the members of the
juries, for all the work they put into reading and evaluating the
entries. Jury reports will follow in the next issue of ALT News.

With best wishes,

Anna Siewierska (president)
J-C Verstraete (secretary-treasurer)
