Dear Lingtypers,

We are organizing a conference in Seattle next March on a topic that will be of interest to some of you. It's on 'Formal Linguistics and the Measurement of Grammatical Complexity'. Here's the url:

The basic idea is to probe whether 'formal linguistics' (broadly defined) has anything to contribute to the topic of relative overall complexity of languages and its measurement.
