In the July '12 issue of National Geographic Magazine (pp. 60-93), there is an extensive article, illustrated with magnificent photos, about endangered languages and their cultures. The author is Russ Rymer, known for his book "Genie: a scientific tragedy". Languages discussed are Tuvan (Russia), Aka (India), Seri (Mexico), Euchee (Oklahoma) and Wintu (California). There is also a world map included showing languages at risk.
