(i) Asst Prof, (ii) teaching position)
Dear ALT list members,
(i)
at the Chair of General and Comparative Linguistics of the University of
Regensburg, the position of a "wissenschaftlicher Assistent" with a
focus on linguistic typology and language documentation has to be filled
by October 15, 2012. This position is the German equivalent to an
"assistant professor" but without a tenure track. Payment will be
according to the German pay scale (A13). The duration of the contract is
maximally six years. However, if the future appointee will complete the
"Habilitation" (a kind of second PhD thesis in the German academic
system) within this time frame, there is a chance for another four years
employment as "Oberassistent" (A14) depending on the financial resources
of the University of Regensburg. The PhD degree is required before
taking up the appointment.
Linguistics at the University of Regensburg has foci on language
typology, documentation of endangered languages and language
description. Functional approaches to language are favored. These foci
are also reflected in the content and spirit of the BA and MA programs
"General and Comparative Linguistics" at Regensburg. For further
information please visit our website:
http://www.uni-regensburg.de/sprache-literatur-kultur/allgemeine-vergleichende-sprachwissenschaft/index.html
The successful candidate has to teach courses in general and comparative
linguistics within the BA and the MA programs, respectively (e.g.
phonetics/phonology, morphology/syntax, semantics/pragmatics, historical
linguistics, fieldmethods, language typology, language documentation,
and so on). Teaching load is five hours per semester. Language of
instruction is English or German. A good working command of German,
however, is an asset. In addition, the successful candidate is expected
to participate in the "Linguistic Forum" (LiFo), a linguistic colloquium
within the faculty, and the various administrative tasks of the chair
such as, for instance, counseling and mentoring our linguistic students.
Applications (CV, list of publications, list of courses taught) should
be sent to:
