Dear colleagues,
The grammaticalisation of a verb meaning 'to call' (or
even 'to cry/shout') into a marker of (broadly defined)
causativity (i.e. you CALL him go with you > you make him
go with you) is fairly common in Sinitic. I was wondering
whether other examples of such pathway may be found in
other language families (I found a possible case in a
creole language influenced by Cantonese, so that doesn't
count...).
Best,
Giorgio F. Arcodia
