Abstracts on any topic in typology are invited for oral presentations, 
posters, and a limited number of theme sessions. Non-members of ALT may 
submit abstracts but will be expected to join ALT in order to present a 
paper at the meeting.

Deadline for receipt of abstracts: January 15, 2015 (individual 
papers/posters) or November 30, 2014 (theme sessions)

*Abstracts for individual presentations*

(1) Oral presentation (single or multiple author): Each paper will have 
20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion.

(2) Poster: One or more poster sessions will be organized, depending on 
demand.



(3) Oral/poster: This means you prefer an oral presentation but can also 
present a poster.  If there are more good abstracts than we can 
accommodate, the Program Committee will schedule some as posters. If you 
choose either category "poster" or "oral/poster", this will probably 
increase your chances of acceptance.



Abstracts are anonymously reviewed; in line with previous meetings, the 
committee will strive to ensure that selection is rigorous but that the 
acceptance rate is not too low.

*Theme sessions*

A theme session may consist of three to six oral presentations on a 
common theme (20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion for each paper). 
They are proposed non-anonymously by a theme-session convenor. Proposals 
consist of a short description of the theme (100-200 words) plus a list 
of planned presentations with names of authors, titles, and short 
abstracts (100-200 words). Bringing together the potential presenters 
and their abstracts for a theme session is the sole responsibility of 
the theme-session convenor and is completely independent of the Program 
Committee. The deadline for submitting theme sessions is November 30th, 
and notification is by December 20th. Theme sessions are evaluated and 
accepted or rejected en bloc.

Note: One individual may be involved in a maximum of two abstracts 
(maximum of one as sole author), regardless of category (oral, poster, 
theme-session talk).

Abstract subfields: Abstracts should be classified thematically into one 
of the following nine subfields:

phonetics/phonology
morphology
syntax
semantics
discourse/pragmatics
historical lingusitics
sociolinguistics
foundations/methodology
other

*Abstract specifications*

An abstract, including examples, if needed, must be no more than 500 
words and no larger than one page of A4 (or US letter), in type no 
smaller than 10 point and preferably 12 point; margins should be at 
least 12 mm (0.5 inch) on all sides. Abstracts exceeding the word or 
page length limit or in type smaller than 10 point will be rejected 
without being evaluated. Please indicate the number of words at the 
bottom of the abstract. Put this information at the top of your abstract:

– abstract title

– abstract category (oral, poster, oral/poster)
– abstract subfield

Format:  If at all possible, please submit your abstract as a pdf.


Name: Give your pdf a filename similar to the title.



Anonymity:  Abstracts must be anonymous: do not put your name or other 
identifying information on the abstract. Also, please anonymize your pdf 
by removing identifying information. 


The abstracts will be read by members of the Program Committee and by 
one or more members of an extended Scientific Committee (to be appointed).

The ALT website will soon contain some good sample abstracts from the 
past and some pointers about abstract writing.
