The Department of Linguistics (<http://ling.ucsd.edu>) and the Human 
Development Program (<http://hdp.ucsd.edu>) within the Division of 
Social Sciences at the University of California, San Diego invite 
applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Language Evolution 
and/or Development at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning July 
1, 2015. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in 
Linguistics and the Human Development Program. Both units are committed 
to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and 
student body.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have research and teaching 
strengths in language emergence and evolution and/or language 
development. Additional expertise preferred in some combination of the 
following areas: computational modeling, experimental methods, 
linguistic typology, language variation, models of human learning and 
cultural transmission. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics or 
a related field by the start of the appointment on July 1, 2015. 
Candidates should demonstrate evidence of research productivity, 
undergraduate and graduate teaching ability, and extramural funding 
potential. Candidates are encouraged to highlight how their research 
complements existing research on language and human development at UC 
San Diego. The preferred candidate will have experience or a willingness 
to participate in teaching, mentoring, research or service towards 
building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. In compliance 
with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, individuals offered 
employment by the University of California will be required to verify 
identity and authorization to work in the United States.
