One page abstracts are invited for the II International Workshop on the Typology of Amerindian Languages: The Grammar of Body-part Expressions to be held at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), on 27-29th October 2016.

Body-part expressions are well known cross-linguistically because of their particular grammatical properties. In many languages of the world, body-part expressions are conspicuously found in noun incorporation, various types of compounding and special possessive constructions. Furthermore, it is the case that in a number of languages some of these constructions are exclusively found in association with body-part expressions.

The particular morphosyntactic properties of body-parts expressions are in accordance with their special cognitive status. Body parts are a model for conceptualization in very different semantic domains: spatial relations, numbers, emotions and so on. Additionally, expressions denoting body parts may be the diachronic source of topological expressions, reflexive/reciprocal markers, intensifiers of various sorts, numerals and classifiers.

We welcome abstracts dealing with these or any other topic that may contribute to the understanding of the morphosyntactic and sematic nature of body-part expressions in the languages of the Americas. We are equally open to abstracts taking synchronic or diachronic approaches, and focusing on one language or a language family/area. Finally, we also welcome presentations from other disciplines, including anthropology, philosophy or psychology.

Publication of a volume based on the studies presented in the workshop is planned.

One page abstracts should be sent to bodypartspucp at gmail.com. Abstract deadline: July 15, 2016.
