[Lingtyp] ALT election: ballot and slate of officers

[ALT elections]

Dear ALT members,

The nominating committee has drawn up the slate of officers for the ALT
election and voting is now open.  Deadline for voting:  Jan. 21.

This is an important election, as we are replacing all three top officers
and electing a secretary and a treasurer separately (splitting the former
secretary-treasurer position) -- and at a time when ALT needs to keep on
top of rapid changes in typology, in linguistics more generally, in journal
publication, and in professional societies.

Frans Plank, who founded Linguistic Typology and built it into a top
journal, is retiring as its editor at the end of volume 20. Johanna
Nichols' term as president is coming to an end after four years of service,
and Jean-Christophe Verstraete is leaving office as secretary-treasurer
after eight years of service. In addition, there are three members of the
executive committee whose term ends this year, Kees Hengeveld, Ritsuko
Kikusawa and Bill McGregor, and three associate editors for LT whose term
will end when Frans Plank retires, Bill Croft, Larry Hyman and Maria
Koptjevskaja-Tamm. We are very grateful to all outgoing officers for their
service to ALT.

We are also grateful to the Nominating committee (chair Balthasar Bickel,
members Heriberto Avelino, Claire Bowern, and Nick Enfield) and the Editor
Search Committee (chair Keren Rice, members Steve Levinson, Marianne
Mithun) for their very important work.

Following ALT's regular procedure, you vote either on the entire slate or
on individual nominees as you choose.

Assuming that you are a member, please return your ballot to <
alt2015elections at gmail.com> before January 21, 2016.   (You can also just
reply to this email.)  Any format is OK as long as it makes your vote clear
-- return this email with your vote added, return just the ballot part,
send a separate email.
