Postdoc Position in General Linguistics in the Department of 
Linguistics, Universität zu Köln

Starting date: 1 March 2020 or 1 April 2020 (not later as teaching 
starts in April)

Duration: 3 years, not tenurable

YOUR TASKS
- 4 hours of teaching per semester (= 2 courses)
- counseling and supervising students
- act as convenor of the Master program in Linguistics
- participation in collaborative research projects
- participation in departmental administration
- pursue a Habilitation or comparable postdoctoral qualification

YOUR PROFILE
- first-rate PhD thesis in hand at time of application and submitted not 
earlier than 01 Jan 2016, on a topic in linguistic typology, language 
description and/or grammaticalisation
- thorough familiarity with at least one non-European language or 
language family
- excellent writing skills (English)
- able to work in teams and lead small working groups
- ability to communicate in German

General Linguistics in Cologne focuses on cross-linguistic comparison, 
diachronic as well synchronic. It is part of a larger network of 
linguistic sections and takes part in joint efforts such as the Master 
program in Linguistics, the CRC Prominence in Language, and the Key 
Profile Area Skills & Structures in Language and Cognition.
