Dear Gary,

Here are two articles on generic noun phrases / statements:
Susan A. Gelmana & Twila Tardif (1998). 'A cross-linguistic comparison of generic noun phrases in English and Mandarin'. Cognition 66, 215-248.
Leila Behrens (2005). 'Genericity from a cross-linguistic perspective'. Linguistics 43-2, 275-344.

best, jan r

Subject: [Lingtyp] cues to genericity

Hello everyone, does anyone know of any empirical work looking at cues to genericity across different languages? E.g., something like this https://langcog.stanford.edu/papers/CF_underreview.pdf , which tests the contribution of definiteness and plurality, but only for English. Any pointers to purely descriptive work would be very helpful as well.

Thanks!
