Dear Ljuba, Keren and all

I heartily endorse the committee and organisers’ decision. It is a pity to have to postpone, but meeting in person will be make it worthwhile.

Best

Subject: [Lingtyp] Timing of ALT14

Dear Typologists,

We are writing to inform you that the ALT Executive Committee, together with the organizers of the next ALT meeting, have made a difficult decision to postpone the ALT meeting scheduled for December 2021 until December 2022. Having concluded that it would likely be difficult to hold a December 2021 meeting in person, we weighed a number of factors (the pros and cons of virtual meetings in particular), and came to the conclusion that postponing for the year, while far from ideal, was better than having the meeting virtually.

This decision was not made lightly. We imagine that not everyone will be happy with it, but hope that you will accept the complexities involved when there are so many unknowns.

The planned dates for ALT 14 are December 15-17, 2022 at UT Austin, Texas. We will get back to you as regards ALT 15 after an updated conference cycle has been discussed among the EC.

Best wishes,
Keren Rice, ALT President
Ljuba Veselinova, ALT Conference Manager
